Thailand National Sports University, Chumpon Campus
Chumphon, Thailand
The final stop on our Chumphon trip was Thailand National Sports University's Chumphon Campus, which trains future PE teachers. We learned its tennis academy was restarting after a four-year hiatus due to COVID-19 and funding shortages, and needed rackets, balls, and shoes. With generous support from tennis-loving friends and my coach, we donated over 50 rackets and hundreds of used tennis balls. Thank you to everyone who made this possible!

Why We Visited
Growing up, tennis was one of my primary sports, so when we started FollowThru, I turned to my coach for guidance on where our support could make a real difference. He recommended TNSU, noting the vital role it has played in spreading and developing tennis across Thailand.
What We Provided
We provided a mix of both new and used tennis equipment, giving coaches the tools they need to teach and continue spreading the sport to future generations of students.
What We Learned
We learned that high humidity, combined with the academy's pandemic-related closure and years without funding, had left the three tennis courts unused and poorly maintained. In their current state, the courts are unsafe to play on due to a dangerously slippery surface. We're hopeful that by our next visit sometime next year, with operations back to normal, the courts will have been renovated and ready for use again.
